Bhubaneswar: BJD politicians have been haunted by chit fund scam links since a few years now. To add to their woes, the CBI has summoned Balasore MP Rabindra Jena and MLA Pravat Biswal’s wife Laxmi Bilasini Biswal today. They are to appear before CBI within two days for interrogation in connection with the Sea Shore Group scam.
As per CBI sources, first time MP Jena’s Supratik group of companies had taken Rs 18 crore term loan from the Seashore group in 2010 but paid it back in 2013. Jena also held various positions in Balasore Alloys from 2007 to 2011, the sources said. The CBI had interrogated him in January, 2015.
The Biswal couple had also been earlier summoned by CBI and were grilled in November 2014. The Cuttack-Choudwar MLA and his wife were questioned regarding a land deal with Seashore Group. Laxmi Bilasini, a former Zilla Parishad Chairman of Cuttack, had then said that Seashore had given her two cheques of 15 lakh and 10 lakh in April 2012 following which the couple had finalized the sale deed but registration was not made. She had said, later Seashore had asked them to return the money and was not interested in their 1.25 acre land at Benapur village in Jajpur anymore. She had said they returned the money in July 2012 but without a money receipt.
Recently, Pragativadi had exclusive reports of CBI asking for details of vehicle passes of MLAs and ministers of the Legislative Assembly many of who had allegedly taken vehicles as gifts from chit fund companies.
