Bhubaneswar: A team of the Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch (CB) on Thursday left for Delhi to interrogate arrested Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) handler Habibur Rahman of Kendrapara district.
The team led by STF DIG Himansu Lal will seek the permission from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and grill Habibur. The team will particularly interrogate Habibur as to how he became the member of Lashkar-e-Taiba and how many times he had assisted Pakistan-based LeT terrorist Shaikh Abdul Naeem to enter Odisha.
The NIA in its charge sheet has mentioned Naeem’s Cuttack link. The CB team will interrogate the accused in the matter, sources said.
On the other hand, the Commissionerate Police has expedited vigil after the Habibur’s Cuttack link surfaced. “We will take necessary action if we find any evidence in this regard,” said DCP Akhileshvar Singh.
Notably, Rahman was arrested by the NIA from Indira Gandhi airport in New Delhi on August 6, after being deported from Saudi Arabia. Earlier the special NIA court has issued a non-bailable warrant against Rahman.
It may be mentioned here that, Naeem was arrested in 2007 while trying to infiltrate three terrorists into India through Bangladesh. However, he escaped from custody while being shifted to Maharashtra from Kolkata in August 2014. Later, he had joined the LeT on the directions of his handlers.
Naeem was assigned to identify the locations in the country where terrorist attacks could be carried out. To carry out the terror operation, Habibur had arranged hideouts and funds for Naeem on different occasions, sources in the NIA said.
