CB initiates probe into police-lawyer conflict
Bhubaneswar: Following the order of the Orissa High Court, the Crime Branch (CB) of Odisha police on Friday began a probe into the police-lawyer conflict in Cuttack.
The CB officials today questioned advocate Debi Prasad Patnaik at his residence.
According to sources, Patnaik was allegedly beaten up by police on August 28 following which he lodged complaint with Chauliaganj police. Protesting the assault, lawyers’ association staged cease-work agitation since August 29.
The Cuttack High Court Bar association also joined the strike condemning the incident.
Notably, the High Court on September 5 after hearing two petitions filed by Orissa High Court Bar Association and Nationalist Lawyers’ Association had directed the CB to conduct a thorough probe into the incident.
