Car catches fire in Khurda
Khurda: A car parked at old fire station Square near town police in Khurda district caught fire spontaneously today afternoon. The cause of the blaze is yet to be ascertained, a police official said.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 3 pm when the car was parked along the road near the fire station square. No one was present inside the car when it combusted. However, some eyewitnesses said the driver of the car took out some half burnt notes from the boot of the car.
On being informed, fire service department reached the spot and douse the flame. Later, Town police visited the spot and launched a probe into the matter.
The police after preliminary investigation revealed that the car belongs to Mathasahi area.
Earlier, on August 15, raid was conducted at Mathasahi in connection with smuggling of brown sugar. The police suspect that the burning of car has some connection with the brown sugar smuggling or it might be a fallout of past enmity.
