Bhubaneswar: Scores of commuters faced a harrowing time on Tuesday as bus services were halted between Bhubaneswar and Puri due to the ongoing dispute of between the Private Bus Owners’ Association of both the cities regarding the timing schedule of the buses.
Reportedly, the two private bus owners associations had been involved in this long-standing dispute over the arrival and departure schedule of the buses between the two cities.
According to sources, the dispute intensified on Tuesday morning as the members of Bhubaneswar Private Bus Owners’ Association allegedly detained two buses en route to Bhubaneswar from Puri at Kalpana Square and asked them to return to Puri.
Following this, Puri bus owners have also stopped Puri-bound buses from Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, the Bhubaneswar Private Bus Owners’ Association secretary Barada Prasanna Acharya, has accused Puri bus association of detaining around 18 buses from Bhubaneswar since last three days. Because of which they halted all bus services to Puri.
On the other hand, Puri Private Bus Owners’ Association secretary, Lokanath Pani told the media, “We have suffered a huge loss as the owners of Bhubaneswar private bus association have detained our buses at the Bhubaneswar Barmunda bus stand.” He added that “Until they release our buses, we will not free their vehicles.”
Around 65 buses from Puri to Bhubaneswar and 75 buses from Cuttack to Puri via Bhubaneswar commute every day, the disruption in the bus service to these destinations has been a reason of concern for the passengers.
