Bus overturned: 2 killed and 30 injured
Kendrapara: Two persons were killed and 30 others injured when a bus overturned and fell into a canal near Arjunapur in Patkura area here on Friday morning.
The accident occurred when the private bus Raja (OR-05-AH-5525), carrying around 30 passengers on its way to Korua from Cuttack, lost control and fell into a canal. Two passengers were killed on the spot. All the injured passengers were rushed to SCB Medical, Cuttack after primary treatment in District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).
Among the injured are a college student Priyadutta Mahali (18) and Rajesh Nayak (24), a daily wager of Korua, Kedarnath Sahoo Suvasmita Nayak (22) of Jaharabarumula village, a teacher of Lokanath College, Korua Surendra Mishra, including eight college students sustaining injuries.
Locals rushed to the spot after hearing the loud sound created by the bus after falling into the canal. But by the time, the driver of the bus fled from the spot.
Following the death of two persons, students of Loknath College staged protest blocking the main road at the college square.
The incident drew the attention of the Chief Minister who, through the district administration, has assured to provide financial assistance of one lakh each to the family of the deceased from the Chief Minister Relief Fund and Rs 10,000 each from the Red Cross Fund.
Police have started investigation and are in search of the driver who fled from the spot.
