Bolangir: Odisha police today arrested a person for allegedly involved in a case for pledging fake and impure gold in Bolangir.
The, accused Abhimanyu Mohapatra, owns a jewellery shop in the locality and as a part of the conspiracy, he had earlier verified the gold ornaments brought and deposited as mortgage by other co-accused.
Reportedly, about 14 loan borrowers have deposited fake gold as mortgage against the loan and duped State Bank of India, Kusang branch for lending Rs 44 lakh.
Police is making efforts to trace other accused in connection with the fraud and vital documents were seized while the involvement of bank employees is also under suspicion.
Earlier, the Regional Manager of the concerned bank had lodged a complaint against the fraudulent practice on March 18. The authorities also informed the matter to Economic Offences Wing (EOW) and Crime Branch following which Bolangir Sadar police registered a case regarding the incident.
