Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) today jointly launched Bhima Bhoi Samarthya Sibir, a unique initiative to enroll, enable and empower the persons with disabilities within the BMC area in association with Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disability (SSEPD) and State Institute for Disability Rehabilitation
The first day, itself, saw an overwhelming response to the event from the PWDs. Tomorrow more participants are expected to come and attend the event. The two-day long event, at BMC Community Centre, will be concluded tomorrow and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is likely to chair the valedictory ceremony.
Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said that the Bhima Bhoi Samarthya Sibir would be a perfect platform to act as a single window channel to help the persons with disabilities.
However, sources added that as the Centre is in the process to review the list and 22 more disabilities are to be added to the existing ones, the total number may be much more.
The Bhima Bhoi Samarthya Sibir has several components like enrolment of beneficiaries, enrolment for single window system for selection of beneficiaries, provision of doctors for on-the-spot assessment of different physically challenged persons including persons suffering from visual and hearing impairment, multiple disabilities, loco-motor, autism, cerebral palsy, mental retardation and Unique ID for Person with Disability (UDID) under the Swabalamban Scheme.
A large crowd was seen gathered around the UDID counter as the unique card is supposed to serve the PWDs with a pan-Indian scope. The PWD, once register through UDID can get the benefit anywhere across the nation, it was learnt.
