Bhubaneswar: The Khandagiri Police here have arrested one more culprit Asish Behera of the ‘Black Pulsar gang’ at Kendrapara, late night on Monday in connection with the case of assaulting series of people by slitting their bodies with the help of razor on Sunday. Asish is an engineering graduate informed Commissioner of police YB Khurania.
Earlier on the same day of incident police had arrested one of the accused of the gang, named Amit Mohapatra from Rupali Square in the city. While interrogation by the police, accused Amit said, late on Sunday evening he alongwith his other partners (Asish and Bharat Panda) had a few drinks at a wine shop near Kalpana Square. But when they ran short of money for further drinks they planned to loot people.
In an inebriated state, they chose the isolated lanes of the city and headed towards the areas of Baramunda via Siripur, Delta and Jagamara mounted on a black pulsar bike sans a registration number and started their random assault spree. They first attacked Tikayat Sahoo at Siripur and later cut at least 12 others by slitting people’s body, especially their neck and cheek.
Police said, locals of the area immediately informed the police control room following which DCP Satyabrata Bhoi with his team began their operation to nab the gang. All the entry and exit points of the city were closed and all the PCR vans across the city were instructed to look around the city. As many as five police vans chased them. Their movement was closely monitored by Very High Frequency (VHF) navigation.
Chasing them from Baramunda police went after the bike through Jaydev Vihar, Acharya Vihar and Vani Vihar. The police caught hold of them at Rupali Square enroute Master Canteen when they were attempting to escape by breaking the signal and moved forward but with advent of another police van, they took a sudden turn in their bike, when Amit fell down. The Sahid Nagar police after investigating forwarded him to the Khandagiri police station and later the police have issued a court challan against Amit.
Now with the second arrest of the gang, police is still on a manhunt to nab the third accused who is on the run now.
