BJP workers and VIMSAR medicos jointly observe 12-hour bandh in Burla over transfer of doctors


Sambalpur: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today observed a 12-hour ‘Bandh’ in Burla staging protest against State government’s decision of transferring 11 doctors of VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) to other locations.

The protest gained momentum after State Government issued a notification regarding transfer orders for 11 out of 16 faculty members of VIMSAR to the newly-formed medical colleges at Koraput, Baripada and Berhampur, leaving the posts vacant.

The students of the institution staged a mass demonstration demanding the withdrawal of transfer orders and warned to intensify the protest if the demand is not considered.

The irate medical students yesterday gheraoed VIMSAR Superintendent Brajamohan Mishra over the issue and demanded withdrawal of transfer orders.

Convener of Joint Committee of Under Graduate Students’ Union, House Surgeons’ Association and Post-Graduate Students’ Association of VIMSAR, Shankar Ramchandani, said 16 doctors of VIMSAR got promotion by Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).  Out Of them, 11 have been transferred despite the fact that five of the doctors had evinced interest to work in VIMSAR, he added.

As per the Junior Doctor Association (JDA), there is a major shortage of medicos in VIMSAR and said that the step will badly hamper the medical services.
