New Delhi: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha while the Shiv Sena decided to abstain from voting as the Lok Sabha began debate on the no-confidence motion on Friday.
The Naveen Patnaik led BJD had already declared their intention to do so, a short while ago. The BJD has 20 MPs.
Making the announcement, BJD leader Bhatruhari Mahtab said, “There has been injustice to the people of Odisha in the last 14 years—10 years of UPA and four years of the NDA. Therefore we are staging a walkout.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Amit Shah and key ministers in Parliament, just minutes before the no-trust motion debate begins in Parliament.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi will lead the opposition charge with his speech.
