BJD observes 5-hour bandh, public inconvenienced
Bhubaneswar: The hasty decision of ruling BJD to stage a five-hour-long bandh today was reported peaceful but disrupted the common life of public in the state.
As the party announced its decision just a day before, most of the people were not aware of this and faced inconveniences due to its ‘Haq Pain Hartal’ protest.
Though the party had formally announced for a protest against the petrol price rise before, on Sunday it announced for the five-hour-long Hartal on Monday from 7 am to 12 pm.
The BJD workers this morning swung into action and protested by picketing at government and private offices and staging road blockade by burning tyres.
The running of vehicles and trains were disrupted leading to public inconveniences.
As the bandh was announced to be performed peacefully, violence by the party workers was reported minimal but tension had prevailed at many places during the protest hours as most of the peole were not aware of it.
The higher officials like Chief Secretary and Secretaries had come to the secretariat in police patrolling, but Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and ministers did not come to office in the first half during the protest.
The Cabinet meeting that was scheduled at 11:45 pm today was also cancelled.
