Bhubaneswar: The Opposition today asked the BJD to come clean on the issue of receiving election funds and its expenditure.
Addressing a news conference here, BJP state vice-president Samir Mohanty said: “Discrepancies have been noticed in the affidavits of the chief minister and a BJD MP filed before the election commission. It has been shown that the ruling party had received money through RTGS.”
“We are surprised to find that the same RTGS was used to transfer money to the Mayurbhanj MP Ramchandra Hansda’s account, currently in jail for his alleged involvement in the Ponzi case. They should come clean on the issue,” he said.
Mohanty sought to know the identity of Purna Chandra Padhi, who had made the transfers and donated money to the BJD.
“The BJD should reveal their entire financial transactions to the public. We will shortly approach the income tax department and the Enforcement Directorate demanding a detailed investigation,” said Mohanty.
Leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra said: “We had raised the issue earlier in the Assembly. But no one had reacted at that time. Some people have even burnt my effigies. The BJD is a corrupt party. It is known to everyone.”
Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said: “A CBI probe should be ordered to unearth the entire financial transactions of the BJD.”
The issue came to light after an RTI activist had pointed out the discrepancies and approached the court, which had directed the election commission to submit the records.
