Bhubaneswar: The Biju Mahila Janata Dal (BMJD) today submitted a memorandum to Governor SC Jamir against LPG price hike and withdrawal of all subsidies on cooking gas by the Central government after staging a protest outside the Raj Bhavan here.
The BJD Mahila wing demanded the Governor for issue of necessary direction to the Union Government which has recently taken decision to hike the price of LPG cylinders and end all subsidies on cooking gas.
“The decision will affect all consumers in general and the poor people in particular and will have adverse impact on their economic front as the Petroleum Ministry has decided to hike LPG prices by Rs 4 per cylinder every month starting from July 1, 2017 and to end all subsidies on cooking gas by end of March, 2018”, the memorandum read.
Thousands of BJD women activists, including various legislators, participated in the dharna under the leadership of BMJD president Pramila Mallick.
Addressing the gathering, Mallick said, “The centre’s decision to withdraw LPG subsidy and hike the price of cylinders by Rs 4 every month would have adverse impact on the common people of our state.”
