BJD extends support to Pravat Biswal, terms his arrest ‘political vendetta’

Prabhat Biswal

Bhubaneswar: The BJD this afternoon stood by MLA Pravat Biswal terming his arrest a political vendetta of the BJP government in Centre and extended support to him at a press conference here at the party headquarters.

Addressing the press conference, BJD Rajya Sabha member Prasanna Acharya questioned on CBI activities. When the central investigative agency is investigating the case for last three years, why it has not concluded yet, he asked.

The action of the agency taking intervals at different occasions signifies that there is a political target behind it. When Prabhat Biswal and his wife Laxmi Bilasini Biswal have been interrogated several times before and both have deposited all required data, papers and answered all questions why the CBI was not taking action before, he questioned.

Senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra and Union Minister Jual Oram have questioned the action of the CBI before and the National President of BJP, Amit Shah, during his three-day visit to Odisha had threatened to drag one after one behind the bars indicating the BJD. The central agency that was asleep for a long time all of a sudden arrested the MLA, it is clearly a political vendetta, nothing else, Acharya said.

It clearly signifies the Central BJP government is using central agencies for its political benefit and political revenge. We will fight against it politically, he stressed.

Notably, the CBI this afternoon forwarded Choudwar-Cuttack BJD MLA Pravat Biswal to a special CBI court here amid slogans and protest by hundreds of supporters of the legislator in front of the CBI office here against his arrest.

He was arrested last night after questioning in connection with the alleged multi-crore chit fund scam in the state.
