BJD observes Biju Patnaik’s 20th death anniversary

Bhubaneswar: Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is observing the 20th death anniversary of Late Biju Patnaik. Today (April 17), BJD has planned to observe the occasion by hosting various events in memory of the great Odia leader.

Several statewide programmes are also scheduled to be held by the party. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik paid tributes to the prominent leader and his father at his samadhi in Swargadwar, Puri. A photo exhibition has been hosted at Jayadev Bhawan while in the evening CM Naveen will be the chief guest a meeting in Biju babu’s memory at the same venue where young debaters and artists will be awarded followed by a devotional and patriotic musical evening featuring veteran artiste Mohapatra Minati Bhanja and other vocalists Asima Panda, Sudhakar Mishra, Alok Kundu and Ananya Sahu.

Apart from this, the commemoration day of Biju Patnaik will be observed at the BJD party office. Also, blood donation camps Jiban Bindu will be hosted across the state.

Legendary leader Biju Patnaik was born on March 5 in 1926 and passed away on April 17, 1997. Though popularly known as Biju Patnaik, his actual name was Bijayananda Patnaik. After working as a fighter pilot in the Royal Air Force, he joined India’s freedom struggle and participated in electoral politics after independence. He was a two time chief minister of Odisha and a Union minister too.
