BJD asks remuneration of Anganwadi workers in BJP-ruled states
Bhubaneswar: The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today hit at BJP over Anganwadi workers salary and asked the saffron party to refrain from misleading the workers.
It also demanded a list of the amount of salary the workers are getting in the BJP-ruled states.
“We had increased Rs 500 in 2008 and Rs 500 again in 2013. This time we increased Rs 2000. What amount the Centre has hiked though the programme should be centrally-sponsored and what amount they are getting in the BJP-ruled states?” BJD MP and spokesperson Pratap Deb asked at a press meet here.
He also asked the BJP to come out with the remuneration of Anganwadi workers in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and UP.
Pratap appealed the agitating workers to call off their stir and join duty concerning them regarding disruption in important services like vaccination programmes and newborn and mothers’ care which are being carried out by them.
The press meet was addressed in the aftermath of a protest by a group of workers against the hike announced by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik yesterday.
Dissatisfied with the amount of hike, Anganwadi workers and helpers in Koraput district barged into the Collector office and demanded raise in monthly remuneration today.
Their move came a day after CM Naveen Patnaik enhanced the salary of Anganwadi workers, mini-Anganwadi workers and helpers to Rs 6,000, Rs 4,125 and Rs 3,000 per month respectively.
This apart, the CM also announced that all the staff of Anganwadi will come under insurance coverage for health, life, disability, scholarship and government will bear the premium cost.
He further said all the staff will be covered under the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
