- H5N8 virus found in Delhi and Gwalior
Bhubaneswar: After deadly Japanese Encephalitis virus triggering panic in the Malkangiri area, news of Bird Flu or Avian Influenza has brought the state government on its toes. The health department has sounded high alert in the state and has asked all the CDMOs to take precautionary measures.
The Secretary of the Health Department, Arti Ahuja has informed that the H5N8 avian influenza has been found at the National Zoological Park at New Delhi and Gandhi Zoological Park at Gwalior. It was further confirmed by National Institute of High Security Animal Disease Laboratory at Bhopal.
The virus being carried by the migratory birds, Odisha is on high alert. All the poultry farms and bird sanctuaries in particular are advised take all precautionary measures. The health department has advised district administration to communicate with the owners of all the poultry farms to inform the administration when they spot any sick or dead chicken, and also has advised not to touch the sick chicken.
Ahuja has further informed that various awareness campaigns will also be conducted by the state government.
