Bhubaneswar: Legendary leader Biju Patnaik’s life story will soon be included in school textbooks. School and mass education minister Debi Prasad Mishra said the state government has planned to include the former Chief Minister’s biography in high school syllabus to mark his birth centenary.
Inspiring incidents from Biju Patnaik’s life will be included in the curriculum from the academic year 2017-18 for students of Class VI to Class X. The chapters will include the leader’s childhood stories, his years of education, struggles of life and political success and failures, Mishra said.
The stories of the politician’s life that are widely popular like his role in India’s freedom struggle, the rescue of Indonesian Prime Minister, his adventures as a pilot, will all be part of the school books. Sahitya Akademi winning popular children’s writer Das Benhur will pen the stories on Biju Patnaik for the school syllabus.
The life stories of other leaders like Veer Surendra Sai and Netaji Subhash Bose will also be included in the syallbus, Mishra said. Opposition leader Narasingha Mishra said, it is a good move to include Biju Patnaik’s life in school books but other eminent leaders like Nabrakrushna Choudhary, Harekrushna Mahtab should also be included in the curriculum.
