Bhubaneswar: Renowned litterateur Bibhuti Patnaik was conferred the Odisha Sahitya Akademi’s highest honour for 2015-16. He received the memento and Rs 1 lakh cash award at a function at Rabindra Mandap on Wednesday.
The eminent writer has over 150 books to his name and has won the Kendriya Sahitya Akademi award for 2015, Odisha Sahitya Akademi award in 1985 among various other famous literary awards. His collection of short stories Mahisasura Ra Muha and various novels Ashwamedhara Ghoda, Premika, Badhu Nirupama have all been best sellers in Odia.
The 78 year old was as humble as ever while accepting the award. “It is a great honour i ndeed to be receiving an award bearing the legendary Jagannath Das’ name,” said Patnaik.
Also, 25 veteran writers were awarded for their contribution to literature for 2015 and 2016 who were awarded cash prizes of Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. The awardees for 2015 are: Somnath Patra, Sankarshan Panda, Sk Matulab Ali, Pravakar Satpathy, Jugal Kishore, Sadangi, Kshteramohan Nayak, Sriranga Nayak, Narayan Panda, Desabandhu Swain and Minakshi Devi. Similarly, winners for 2016 are: Binod Bihari Nanda, Prasanna Kumar Hota, Kailash Chandra Routray, Sreesh Patel, Bipin Behari Biswal, Sadashiba Dash, Sarangadhar Raiguru, Sudhakar Das, Ajambar Malla, Bangali Nanda, Bijay Nanda, Shakuntaka Mishra, Kumud Ranjan Panigrahi, Bhikari Charan Dhal and Gitanjali Panda.
