Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate police on Tuesday took Sanjay Kumar Nishank on four-day remand for interrogation in connection with the multiple thefts he has committed in the last one and half years.
Sanjay, a BBA graduate and a native of Atri in Begunia police limits in Khurda district has been accused of stealing gold and silver valuables including other electronic items from locked houses in the Capital city mostly during festivals.
Sanjay was arrested on Thursday from his house in Laxmisagar area. During the raid police had seized 778 grams of gold and 796 grams of silver ornaments estimated at Rs 32 lakh, Rs 39,504, in cash, 43 mobile phones, 29 watches, 26 laptops, three tablets, two LED TVs and a bike from his possession.
The accused was nabbed after a PhD scholar pursuing studies here, lodged a complaint with the Info City police alleging theft of his mobile phone, a laptop and an external hard disk from his rented house.
Acting on his complaint, the cops zeroed in on the accused after tracking the mobile phone number and the helmet he used during loot, which was captured in CCTV footages in the locality.
