Bhubaneswar: For the first time this summer, the capital city scorched as the mercury level crossed 40. After a humid week, today suddenly the sun blazed at 40.6 degrees to become the hottest day of summer so far for the capital city.
While other regions of the state have been witnessing temperatures well over the 40 mark, Bhubaneswar was comparatively cooler even though humid, owing to the Kalbaisakhi effect. The sudden rise in the heat level caused extreme inconvenience to students, office goers and street vendors. Even umbrellas and sun glasses were not enough to brave the heat.
While some private schools have declared vacations, government schools are yet to announce the summer holidays.
Apart from Bhubaneswar, some other regions in the 40 degree club are Malkangiri and Titlagarh where mercury soared to 42 degrees.
