Bhubaneswar: On the backdrop of reports of Cuttack MP Bhartuhari Mahatab’s comments on a possible BJD-Congress alliance as an instruction laid out by CM himself, Union PNG Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday said if such an issue is at all then it is very serious by nature. It shows double standards of Chief Minister Patnaik.
Pradhan said the state government is indulging in opportunistic politics. “Bhartuhari has exposed the real image of BJD. The BJD has a secret alliance with the Congress. It shows from the comments from the Cuttack MP,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mahatab refuted making any such comments to local media. “The reports published in the particular newspaper are absolutely false and baseless. As a journalist it is the duty to publish right information,”
“I have never said anything against CM or possible alliance in state level. Right from the beginning I have clarified the issue while looking at the national level political equation. If any question of alliance then it would be taken only by the party supremo Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik,” Mahatab said.
“Besides we will maintain equidistant from both BJP and Congress in state while sharpen attack on Centre,” he added.
Notably, few days earlier Mahatab had commented on a possible formation of a circumstantial alliance with the Congress to stop BJP from exploiting political leverage. He had said such an equation cannot be ruled out since Congress has gotten weaker over past some years and while looking at the national level political situation it will only benefit BJD. Similarly, since Congress has always supported the welfare of Odisha.
The Chief Minister blatantly ruled out comments of Mahatab the next day and possibilities of any such alliance which has raised questions on ingenuity and consensus within the BJD.
