Bhadrak: In view over the Bhadrak unrest, the 12 hour curfew imposed yesterday evening has been extended up to Sunday morning till 8 am by the administration. The curfew was declared after fresh tension flared yesterday evening amidst section 144 CrPC in force.
Though the situation still remains on the verge, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik appealed the people to maintain peace and solace in the chaos-stricken Bhadrak town.
“I sincerely appeal to all in Bhadrak for peace & harmony; have directed stringent action against any attempt to disrupt peace,” Patnaik tweeted.

Meanwhile, 35 platoons of police force have been deployed at communally sensitive areas of Bhadrak town, Basudevpur and Dhamnagar. To bring back the law and order situation under control, the administration has clamped section 144 in Basudevpur and Dham Nagar in view of the outrage in the areas. So far, 35 persons have been detained by police.
In addition, personnel of 15 different fire stations comprising over 100 of them are engaged in fire fighting from Friday night. A team consisting 30 members of Striking force have been called up from Bhubaneswar to put out fire that engulfed several shops.
On the other hand, Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central), DGP KB Singh and IG (North) G Upadhyay have camped in Bhadrak to closely monitor the situation and take necessary measures to restore peace in the town.
