Bengaluru: The plan for a steel bridge to ease traffic on the road connecting Bengaluru to its International airport has been scrapped by Karnataka government on Thursday.
Bengaluru development minister KJ George today announced the cancellation of the steel bridge project.
The move comes in the backdrop of allegations that kickbacks from this project have been paid to the Congress high command and chief minister Siddaramaiah’s family, as per sources.
The construction of the 6.7 Km steel bridge, estimated to cost Rs 1,800 crore, would have required the chopping of 812 trees. Citizens and associations had protested against the project and had managed to get stay from the National Green Tribunal.
