Bhubaneswar: The claim of agriculture minister Pradeep Maharathi in the Assembly that Bargarh farmer Khainu Bagarti had committed suicide for family tension and not over loan pressure was criticised by all quarters after which the issue will be probed again he has said.
“I had no clue if the collector of the district had visited his house or not sitting in Bhubaneswar. But since there are allegations of the first probe not done properly we have asked the district administration to conduct a fresh probe and give us the reports soon,” Maharathi said today.
As per local farmers, Khainu Bagarti is reported to have faced issues owing to power supply and damage of crops alongwith a pending loan following which he committed suicide last week. The suicide had led to agitation by farmers and locals who had blocked the Bargarh-Raipur National Highway demanding compensation for his family and punishment to the culprits behind the farmers death.
On March 4, the agriculture minister stated in the House that as per a probe into his death he had died over a family argument and not due to crop loss or loan.
