Cuttack: In a big respite for the historical Balijatra festival seekers, the National Green Tribunal on Friday granted clearance to the district administration for conducting the festival.
Earlier, the NGT had landed a show cause notice to the district administration over pollution along the lower banks of the river and directing to stop any booking of stalls whether temporary or permanent.
Meanwhile, plot bookings which were stopped after the directive on Tuesday have resumed now.
Since the major part of the event is organized along the lower banks of the river, there were apprehensions that NGT’s directive could lead to cancellation of the event altogether.
The directive was challenged by Dipesh Mohapatra of Cuttack Nrutya Utsav through a PIL in the High Court.
Notably, the administration had promised that it would take necessary steps like adequate number of dustbins, mobile toilets to ensure pollution free festival.
