Bhubaneswar: Commuters across the state faced considerable inconvenience as All Odisha Auto-rickshaw and Taxi Drivers’ Association went on a 12-hour statewide strike on Thursday.
As many as 1.25 lakh auto-rickshaws and 12,000 taxis across the state remained off the road during the strike. The auto-rickshaw association demanded a revision of passenger fare and social security benefit for them.
During the strike, students, employees of various government and private establishments and other passengers were seen waiting for hours at various junctions to reach their respective destinations.
Apart from fare revision and social security benefit, the association also demanded that the state government should bring out a mechanism for revising the auto-rickshaw fares with an increase and decrease in fuel prices, in the line of bus fares mechanism being implemented in the state.
Moreover, the association protested an increase in the fitness tax and insurance premium.
