Jakarta: Indian javelin thrower Sundar Singh Gurjar clinched a silver in the men’s F46 category whereas, in the same event, Rinku picked up a bronze medal to make it an India-dominated podium at the Asian Para Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.
In the javelin throw, Gurjar grabbed the silver with an effort of 61.33 metre in his fifth attempt. Rinku recorded a personal best of 60.92 metre for the bronze, while the gold went to Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Herath who smashed the Games as well as the Asian record with a throw of 61.84 metre.
Meanwhile, the two-time Paralympic gold-medallist Devendra Jhajharia finished fourth.
The F46 category of disability covers upper limb deficiency, impaired muscle power or impaired range of movement.
In the men’s 400 metre, Avnil Kumar clinched a bronze after clocking 52 seconds. The gold in this event went to Iran’s Omid Zarifsanayei (51.41 sec) to complete the race, while Thailand’s Songwut Lamsan won silver.
The T13 classification deals with visual impairment.
