Jakarta: Ace para-shuttler of Odisha, Pramod Bhagat bagged a gold medal at the para-badminton men’s singles event of the Asian Para Games 2018 held in Jakarta, Indonesia. Pramod earned the spot after defeating his opponent Ukun Rukaendi of Thailand in the sets of 21-19, 15-21, and 21-14.
Ukun has not been able to achieve maximum results as he failed to conquer the Indian representative. Bhagat won the first game with 21-19 following which Ukun was able to turn the game in his favor by securing the second game 15-21.
However, in the decisive game, Bhagat dominated the match as the third game belonged to Bhagat after he closed it with 21-14.
Bhagat had reached final of the singles event battling hard to defeat his Vietnam rival Tuein-Trins Ahan 21-17, 18-21, 21-9 in the semifinal on Friday.
Earlier on Friday, Pramod Bhagat with his partner Manoj Sarkar had to be satisfied with a bronze medal in the para-badminton doubles event of the Asian Para Games. The Indians lost the final to an Indonesian pair 13-21, 19-25.
