Asian games: Indian women’s squash team enters finals

Jakarta: The Indian women squash team entered to finals after defeating Malayasian team by 2-0 in the semi-finals on the 13th day of 18th Asian games in Jakarta on Friday.

The Indian team comprising of Joshana Chinappa, Dipika Pallikal Karthik, Sunayna Kuruvilla and Tanvi Khanna made their way to the finals, scheduled on September 1st. In the finals, they will face either Hong Kong or Japan.

In the opening set, Joshana Chinappa from the contingent was up against 9-time Asian Games medallist Nicol David. After five grueling sets, she emerged as the winner with 12-10, 11-9, 6-11, 10-12, 11-9 scoreline.

Later, Dipika Pallikal beat Low Wee Wern in the second singles match to close out the win for India.

Joshana and Dipika were both part of the team that finished second to Malaysia in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.

The Indian men’s team will play against Hong Kong in the semifinals later in the day.
