Jakarta: India’s Fouaad Mirza by clinching silver became the first Indian to win an individual medal in the equestrian event since 1982 at the Asian games in Jakarta on Sunday.
Fouaad Mirza and his horse Seigneur Medicott finished second with a score of 26.40 behind Japan’s Oiwa Yoshiaki and his horse Bart L Jra, who got 22.70.
India also won silver in the team event in the same competition, making it two medals for the country.
India finished with 121.30 points finishing behind Japan who had 82.40 points. Thailand claimed bronze with 126.70 points. It was a close fight between India and Thailand while Japan were the clear winners.
The last individual medal in the event came in 1982 when Raghubir Singh topped the table in New Delhi. That year, all three of the podium positions were awarded to Indians – Ghulam Mohammed Khan won silver while Prahlad Singh won bronze – in the event.
