Bhubaneswar: Prakash Kumar Mohanty, an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police posted at Godishagada police station in Puri has been caught red-handed by the vigilance sleuths while accepting Rs 4,000 bribe.
Mohanty was receiving the bribe from complainant Dolagobinda Barik of Kalighadi village in Puri for conducting an inquiry into a land dispute.
Accordingly, a trap was laid and Mohanty was caught red-handed by the vigilance officers of Bhubaneswar division on the premises of Gadishagada police station, while he was accepting the bribe from the complainant.
The bribe money was recovered from the pant pocket of Mohanty and seized in presence of witnesses. Subsequently, search was conducted at his residential house at Puri Town. Mohanty has been arrested and forwarded to the court on Saturday.
In another case, the vigilance sleuths arrested Sarat Kumar Mishra, an amin in the office of tehsildar, Bhubaneswar for accepting bribe of Rs 2,500. He was receiving the bribe from complainant Chinmaya Kumar Patra of Parikhet village under Jenapur in Jajpur district to issue a certified copy of “Patta” (ROR).
