Bhubaneswar: At least 21 Maoists were killed in a joint operation by Andhra and Odisha police along the Andhra border in Chitrakonda cut off area in Malkangiri on Monday. Mao leaders Ganesh and Uday are believed to have been killed. Search operations are on following which police can give the exact figures.
The confrontation between Maoists and police took place in the Bejing forest between Ramgad and Panasput. Maoist leaders Uday and Chalapathi as well as top leader Ramakrishna are among those killed.
“About 50 Maoists had gathered at the camp when we carried out the well planned operation in Chitrakonda area,” informed Malkangiri SP, Mitrabhanu Mohapatra. “Ammunition was found in large quantities from the Mao camps including four AK 47s, three SLRs and ten 303 rifles. We are suspecting more damage to the Maoist camps but the numbers will be clear only after the search operations,” he said.
The search operation is still underway said police sources.
