Ahmedabad: BJP president Amit Shah on Friday filed his nomination papers for Rajya Sabha elections from Gujarat.
Apart from Amit Shah, 2 more BJP leaders filed their nomination for the Rajya Sabha elections including Union Minister Smriti Irani.
The announcement was made by BJP leader and Union Minister J.P. Nadda who on Thursday had said that Amit Shah and Smriti Irani will be filing their nomination papers.
The news comes just one day after three Congress MLAs who are considered close to former opposition leader Shankarsinh Vaghela resigned from the assembly ahead of the Rajya Sabha polls.
The resignation of Balwantsinh Rajput (who was also the chief whip), Tejashreeben Patel and Prahlad Patel reduced the Congress’s tally to 54 in the 182-seat assembly. It was a big blow to Congress days after it announced Ahmed Patel as its candidate for the Upper House in the election scheduled for August 8.
