Malkangiri: In yet another incident of ambulance failure, a pregnant woman from Bidarpakhana village under Paparmelta block in the district was carried on a cot for six kilometres on Saturday evening, as the ambulance service was not reachable.
The woman, identified as the wife of Arjuna Khara, developed labour pain on Saturday evening after which, her family tried to contact an ambulance but in vain.
Later, the woman was carried on a cot by her family members and few other villagers. They walked for about six kilometres and reached Badapoda panchayat from where she was shifted to Chitrakonda hospital in a Border Security Force (BSF) ambulance.
The woman delivered a baby boy at the hospital but the newborn died after a few minutes.
The woman has been shifted to Malkangiri District headquarters hospital (DHH) as her condition worsened.
