New Delhi: The Samajwadi Party (SP) on Thursday unanimously re-elected Akhilesh Yadav as national president for a period of five years.
The decision to re-elect Akhilesh as party chief was taken at the SP’s national convention at Agra, after the party’s national general secretary, Ram Gopal Yadav, proposed his name.
Akhilesh’s wife and MP, Dimple Yadav, was present at the convention. The convention is slated to pass its political resolution during the day.
The SP will now fight the 2019 Lok Sabha and 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections under Akhilesh’s presidentship.
The 44-year-old former chief minister has steadily sidelined his father Mulayam Singh Yadav and uncle Shivpal Yadav in the party they formed 25 years ago.
