Ailing tusker loses battle for life

Kamakhyanagar: An ailing adult tusker, was under observation after treatment, died on Saturday at Patharkhamb village under Kamakhyanagar West (KNW) Forest Range in Dhenkanal district.

The 40-year-old elephant was found dead near the foothills of Landabir hill, KNW Ranger Bibhudanand Mishra said.

The elephant was spotted in a critical condition near Landabir hill on July 29, following which forest officials rescued the animal by firing tranquilizers and started its treatment.

Later, the pachyderm was released in the forest with required medication after it got well and was under constant observation by forest officials.

Meanwhile, veterinary officials have reached the spot to ascertain the cause of the death of the animal.
