Chennai: Another setback for EPS-OPS faction, at least 27 more legislators – besides the 21 in Puducherry resort – stayed away, exposing the government’s eroding base.
It was supposed to be a meeting of the EPS-OPS camp to put on notice V K Sasikala and her nephew TTV Dhinakaran. But it turned out to be a shocker for the chief minister and his deputy.
After the Monday meeting, the united factions announced that the party general council and executive committee will meet on September 12 as part of the process to remove V K Sasikala from the post of general secretary and Dhinakaran as the deputy general secretary.
Dhinakaran’s known supporters were not invited for the meeting, but what came as a shock for the leaders was the abstention of 27 MLAs who were believed to be by the EPS-OPS side. The camp leaders, meanwhile, gave conflicting numbers of participation ranging from112 to117.
Notably, the EPS-OPS camp last week removed Dhinakaran from the post of party deputy general secretary alleging violation of party bylaws.
