New Delhi: Railway Board chairman AK Mittal has been replaced by Air India chairman and managing director Ashwani Lohani.
“Safety will be our topmost priority, of course. Cleanliness, improvement of stations, and ending corruption and VIP culture would be other areas of focus,” said Lohani.
The move comes after former Railway Board Chairman A.K. Mital tendered his resignation on Tuesday evening.
According to sources, Mital, a Principal Secretary-level officer, had sent his resignation to Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu on Tuesday.
Notably, on August 19, Utkal Express train accident at Khatauli railway station near Muzaffarnagar that had killed at least 23 passengers and injured over 80 people.
