Bargarh: Four and a half month after a parcel bomb explosion killed a newly-wed groom and his grandmother at Patnagarh in Balangir district, a similar instance of package explosion rocked Bargarh district on Saturday.
A low-intensity parcel bomb exploded at Bhalupatra village under Attabira police limits of the district today afternoon leaving a man critically injured. The victim was identified as T Nagabhusan.
According to sources, Nagabhusan’s 13-year-old son spotted a parcel was abandoned in front of their house at around 3 pm. When Nagabhusan reached there and opened the parcel, it exploded.
He was critically injured in the explosion and was rushed to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research in Burla. He was later shifted to the ICU.
Bargarh superintendent of police (SP) Mukesh Kumar Bhamu confirmed the parcel bomb blast. The explosion spread panic in the locality.
Meanwhile, a police team visited the spot and began a probe into the incident. The police seized the remains of the bombs and further investigation is underway to find out who had dumped the parcel there.
Notably, a parcel that had landed at Patnagarh residence of Soumya Shekhar from Raipur by courier had killed him and his grandmother, Jemamani, while they were unwrapping the wedding gifts on February 23. Soumya’s wife Reemarani got critically injured in the blast.
