‘Abducted’ Bengal woman rescued from Jagatsinghpur

Erasama: A married woman who was allegedly abducted from a village in West Bengal was rescued from Erasama area in Jagatsinghpur district on Sunday.

Nandigram police with the help of their Jagatsinghpur counterparts rescued the woman, identified as Moni Mandal (20), and arrested her abductor Biswajit Mandal (22).

According to sources, the woman, who hails from Keshpur village under Nandigram police limits, had an affair with Biswajit of the same village. The accused eloped with her and took her to Odisha eight months back. Later, a few locals helped the couple get work in a prawn enclosure (gheri) at Saraba village in Erasama.

On the other hand, the woman’s husband had lodged a complaint in this regard at Nandigram police station following which an abduction case was registered. During the investigation, the police learnt about the presence of the woman and her lover at Erasama.

Later, a team led by Nandigram sub-inspector Kajol Datta with the help of Erasama police station assistant sub-inspector reached Saraba village and rescued the woman and arrested the youth.

The Nandigram police left for Kolkata with the woman and the accused youth at 5 pm on Sunday.
