New Delhi: For the year 2017-18, Indian Railways introduced a new business plan on Thursday and unveiled that the system would work to integrate data of the Aadhaar card with online ticketing procedure. The new plan may begin with making the Aadhaar card mandatory from April 1 onward for booking online train tickets on IRCTC webpage.
According to the Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu, the ministry will work towards a transformation of ticketing by shifting towards cashless, paperless ticketing and Aadhaar-based integrated ticketing App by May 2017.
Earlier, the ministry had made the Aadhaar card optional for senior citizens for train ticket booking but this time Aadhaar details have to be submitted by anyone booking tickets in IRCTC. The use of Aadhaar card will also ensure the user of getting some concession while booking online tickets.
The initiative has been brought up to prevent touts from registering with invalid identities, a senior official said.
