Bijnor: Six workers died while several others sustained critical injuries after a biogas tank exploded during repairing at Mohit Petro-chemical factory in Bijnor of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
The deceased were identified as Balgovind, Rabi, Lokendra, Kamalbir, Bikrant and Chetram. Other three workers of the plant remained untraceable.
According to sources, the incident occurred at around 8 am when the labourers were repairing a biogas tank. It is suspected that the tank exploded due to the presence of Methane gas in the tank.
The critically injured labourers were rushed to the district hospital for treatment.
On being informed, DM Atal Kumar Ray and SP Umesh Kumar Singh and other officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation. The cause of the explosion is being investigated, ASP Biswajit Srivastav said.
