Nuapada: Tension prevailed at Bhentakuturi’s Bishora village in Nuapada district as hundreds of women vandalised a country brewery in the area on Sunday before setting it ablaze.
According to sources, the irate women of the area marched towards the brewery and later burnt it down to ashes.
When asked, the agitating women alleged that scores of people are getting addicted due to the easy availability of spurious liquor in the area.
Besides, it has also turned a safe haven for anti-socials, who create nuisance and sometimes women fall victims to eve-teasing by inebriated men, who sprawl near the illegal liquor unit.
Irked over the issue, the women of the village decided to shut down the brewery. The agitators initially tore down the brewery and later set it on fire.
Meanwhile, police forces were deployed in the village to pacify the agitators and avoid any untoward situation.
