Jakarta: Indian boxer Amit Panghal clinched gold medal in Men’s 49 Kg category in the final match on 14th day of the Asian Games 2018 in Jakarta on Saturday. This was India’s first gold in boxing.
CWG silver medalist Panghal defeated Rio Olympics gold medallist Hasanboy Dusmatov of Uzbekistan with 3-2 scoreline.
Panghal entered the final after he defeated Carlo Paalam of Philippines in their men’s light flyweight boxing in semi-final by 3-2 score.
Earlier, Amit Panghal bagged a silver at Commonwealth games. He also had won gold at the prestigious Strandja Memorial tournament this year.
Notably, Vikas Krishan on Friday settled for bronze after he was declared unfit to play his semi-final match due to a cut in his eyelid earlier in the event.
