Jakarta: India’s Swapna Barman bagged gold in women’s heptathlon event in the 18th Asian Games here on Wednesday giving India its 11th gold on the 11th day of the mega sports event in Jakarta. Swapna finished the seven-discipline event with over 6000 points.
Swapna recorded a gold for India in the heptathlon event by breaking through the 6000-point mark. She was ahead of Wang Qingling at the end of the penultimate event, the javelin throw, which was completed on Tuesday with an aggregate of 5218 points by the end of six events.
Swapna fought off her challenger Wan Qinling of China and by the end of the event, she had earned an aggregate of 6026 points. Purnima Hembram finished in fourth place.
India now has a total of 54 medals – 11 gold, 20 silver, 23 bronze.
