Bhawanipatna: In a tragic incident, as many as 80 students fell sick today after consuming Mid-day Meal (MDM) in Lomajuburi and Dunguri Primary schools under Lanjigarh block in Kalahandi district and are undergoing treatment at Biswanathpur Hospital and Bandhapari Primary Health Centre.
Around 80 students of Lomajuburi and Dunguri Primary schools showed symptoms of nausea, vomiting and head reeling after consuming lunch at their respective schools. Two of the victims turned critical post meal and were rushed to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH). Other affected students were immediately sent to Biswanathpur Hospital by the school authorities.
The meal served at these schools is being prepared and provided by Mana Trust and sponsored by Vedanta.
Reportedly, the school authorities have raised the issue regarding the quality of the food in front of Mana Trust authorities and Block Education Officers many a times in the past, but no action has been taken yet.
The locals in the area now demand a test of food quality sponsored by Vedanta and stern action against Mana Trust which administers the meal at the schools.
