Rampur: Around eight coaches of Meerut-Lucknow Rajya Rani Express derailed near Rampur in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning leaving at least 12 passengers injured. However, no casualties has been reported yet.
CPRO Northern Railway Neeraj Sharma said that the accident happened between Mundapandey and Rampur railway stations, near a bridge over the Koshi river when the Rajya Rani Express was travelling from Meerut to Lucknow.
All the injured passengers have been taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that an inquiry has been ordered to look into the case and strict action will be taken against any lapse.
Meanwhile, UP chief minister Adityanath Yogi announces Rs 50,000 compensation to those seriously injured in the accident and Rs 25,000 for passengers with minor injuries.
Moradabad Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) has reached the spot to oversee the rescue and relief operations. A medical team has also reached the spot.
The official said causes of the accidents are not known yet.
