Cuttack: The Odisha State Maritime Museum (OSMM) at Jobra in the city is all set to introduce the much awaited 7D theatre to entertain visitors, mostly tourists. Built at a cost of 2.21 crores, the theatre is almost ready to be inaugurated. About 95 percent of the infrastructure work has been completed, museum officials said.
The project was enlisted in the dream project by Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik and the theatre would be inaugurated by him n a special programme, said museum officials. The 48 seated theatre will provide the simulated physical effects of wind, lightning, rain, snow, fog, bubble, air blast on face, aroma and fire in synchronization with the film clips to viewers. Movies of 20 minutes duration would be screened in the theatre. The specially designed seats will wobble and jolt, keeping the person who sits in it in synchronization with the developments in the movie.
Earlier, OSMM hosted a workshop for the Britishers during the pre-independence period. After getting recognition as a maritime museum in 2013, the largest aquarium in the state was also built here. The state government has spent about Rs 14 crores towards the construction of OSMM. With a usual visit of around 500 to 600 people at the museum per day, the authorities expect the 7D theatre would attract more number of visitors .
